Pre-conference Mix and Mingle for ACFW Conference in St. Louis

new ACFW logo whiteIt’s  time!

In a few weeks I will be attending the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) conference in St. Louis, MI. I am so excited! Since joining the ACFW in August I have already met so many wonderful authors and had opportunities to review books and write for blogs that otherwise I would not have known existed. I can’t wait to see what other opportunities the ACFW brings me! Last year to help newbies become familiar with other ACFW conference attendees, author Laurie Tomlinson created a pre-conference mix and mingle. It went so well that she has created the form again for us to get to know one another. I’m filling out my sheet below and hope that you enjoy getting to know me better. I’d love to do the same for you, so please be sure to link back to Laurie’s page! Can’t wait to see everyone in just a few weeks!

Here’s what to do:

– Copy/paste and fill out your own answers (you don’t have to answer all of them!) in a post on your own website and paste the URL to that post (not your home page) using the handy link-up tool on Laurie’s page. Just click on the blue button below that says “Add your link”.

– Make sure to link back to this post after you fill out your answers so any of your readers who are conference attendees can participate, too! The more, the merrier.

– Click through the links below to get to know other conference attendees before St. Louis!

Here are the questions and my answers!

Name: Marisa Deshaies

Location: Bear, DE

What you write/tagline/trademark: A Way With Words Writing Services

Place in the book world: Aspiring editor who wants to work in publishing!

On a scale of hugger to 10-foot-pole, please rate your personal space: Handshakes first, hugs afterwards

The unique talking point that will get you going for hours: Books, anything British (I love Jane Austen novels, Downton Abbey, and Harry Potter!), all things Disney 🙂

Loved ones at home you’ll be missing: My parents, my two younger brothers, and my miniature dachshund, Winston

Conference goals we can pray for? Please, please, please that I find some leads in editorial employment

Anything we can celebrate with you? I’m doing very well with book reviews and promotions! 🙂

One or two ways we can help you build your platform? Yes! I would be so grateful if you could follow my website, A Way With Words, and, of course, any recommendations to fellow authors, editors, agents, or publishers would be so incredibly helpful. Thanks in advance!!

    • Nice to meet you, too, Becky! You know, I haven’t had a chance to read your books yet (I didn’t make the cut for TCM’s reading list this month), but, because I thought the cover of meant to be mine was so cute, I came across your book in an unexpected place. I was sitting a few Saturdays ago on a bus to NYC and, don’t you know, the lady across the aisle from me was reading Meant to Be Mine! I thought that was the neatest thing ever because of all places to see someone reading a Christian novel before its release date, I didn’t expect it to be on a random bus trip. The entire two hour rides up and back I wanted to reach out to this lady and ask her what she thought of your book, but I didn’t have the heart to interrupt her since she looked so content in her quiet reading world. Maybe she is a book reviewer, too! Love it! 🙂

  1. Look forward to meeting you! How cool that you are on the editing side of things, I pray the Lord will bless your endeavors.

  2. Hi Marisa! I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone looking for editorial employment at ACFW, but that’s such a great idea to pursue those connections at the conference. Very cool. I have a few contacts in that world, so let’s be sure to chat if we get the chance. 🙂

    • Hi Ashley! Thanks so much for the encouraging comment! I figure at this point it is better to try all avenues for possible employment opportunities because you never know who you’re going to meet. Networking is so important for job opportunities these days. I would much appreciate the chat if you have an opportunity! I’ll look out for you at the conference. 🙂 Please shoot me an email at deshaies89 (@) gmail (dot) com if you have specific days or times that work best for you.

    • Hi Brandi! Nice to “meet” you, as well. Thanks for adding me to your pre-conference prayer list–much appreciated! I’m looking forward to catching up with you in St. Louis!
