PW 5500 is a class that teaches students the skills, techniques, and processes required for writers to effectively communicate with viewers and readers through new media outlets. The new media–online forums, online videos, websites, blogs, and other forms of communication through the internet–forces writers to think beyond text. Design, layout, and tools unique to online communication all must merge together to grab and keep viewers’ and readers’ attention. New media emphasizes fast-paced, visually attractive communication. Writers have limited time to ensure text is crisp, clear, and succinct; viewers do not want to read dense text, so utilizing design elements that make reading easier on viewers is essential to a new media writer.
The following portfolio is a collection of written projects that analyze, discuss, and display my understanding of new media writing skills and techniques.
