Editing Services

articulate

You need to have a way with words if you want to publish a novel that not only is placed in bookstores or on online platforms but also speaks to readers. If you’re an author who is ready to take your manuscript from draft to completed form with beautiful writing and polished pages, consider if the services listed below could help you on your path to publication.

I offer reasonable rates and a premium package (see below) as well as a gentle approach and a firm hand that will guide you through edits and revisions.

With degrees in professional writing and English  along with years of experience freelancing as an editor and editing for publishing houses, I love to work alongside pre- and published authors as they refine their stories for readers. As a writer (and author-to-be) myself, I understand that handing your project over to another person can be intimidating–no one enjoys seeing those red marks–but often reaps the most benefits.

SERVICES

Content Editing: $2.50 per page*

The most comprehensive of editorial services, content editing comprises a thorough review of review of the story. In a content edit, I will examine the plot, characters, settings, style, and point of view of your story.  I’ll work with you to strengthen your characters, deepen the theming, consider what elements could be missing in terms of readers’ preferences and the publishing industry, and fill in plot holes. A content edit is primarily performed via the comment feature in Microsoft Word’s track changes feature (as compared to in-line tracking of other editing services).

Line Editing: $1.50 per page*

Line editing involves a read-through of your story. In a line edit, I will perform a word-by-word review of the text to consider where paragraphs can be tightened, sentences can be revised for clarity and conciseness, dialog can be revised for authenticity, scenes can be moved for tension, and much more.

Copy Editing: $1.50 per page*

The task that most people think of when “editing” is mentioned, copy editing consists of a line-by-line review of the manuscript for grammatical, mechanical, punctuation, spelling and general writing errors.

*Page requirements: double-spaced, Times New Roman 12 point font
